Bicycle alarm system with GPS: Alarm to your phone and live tracking

PowUnity’s GPS tracker sounds the alarm as soon as your bike is moved and shows you on the map where it currently is. A motion sensor and cellular positioning are built into a discreetly installed device.

Why an alarm alone is not enough

Track · Protect · Recover for your bicycle

A classic bicycle alarm system does exactly one thing: it screams. Hardly anyone hears that in the city center, and no one hears it in the basement. Your problem is not the lack of noise – your problem is that your bike is gone and you don’t know where it is. That’s why the combination makes the difference.

📍

Track

The tracker reports its position to the PowUnity app via the mobile network. You can see the live location on the map, along with the last valid GPS location when your bike is in the underground garage or in an area with no signal. Rides are recorded as a route.

🔒

Protect

Arm via the lock symbol in the app: closed and green = secured. If the bike moves, the acceleration sensor detects it immediately – you receive a push notification plus an alarm tone along with the location. Auto-Lock secures automatically; disarming is deliberately only manual.

🛟

Recover

In the app, you create a theft report with a profile and images of the last and current location – ideal for the police. You can also activate the optional Recovery Service, available in several European countries.

📡

The GPS tracker

Permanently mounted on the wheel, powered by the vehicle electrical system or battery (approx. 6–55 volts, Universal 9–100 volts). It charges along with the system. The supplied auxiliary battery bridges the gap when the main battery is removed; the battery extension doubles the runtime.

Everyday life

Where wheels disappear

It is precisely in these moments that the combination of motion alarm and location tracking works for you.

Parked in the city

Parked in the city

At the bike rack outside the office or supermarket, a lock alone is not enough. If someone moves your bike, the app alerts you before it has even turned the corner.

At night in the bicycle cellar

At night in the bicycle cellar

Shared basements are rarely locked and never monitored. The motion alarm alerts you, not the neighbors, and shows where the bike is headed.

Push alert to your mobile phone

Push alert to your mobile phone

The alarm is sent to your phone as a push notification with sound and location, even at night. You can see on the map whether the bike is still moving and can inform the police.

Assembly in the workshop

Assembly in the workshop

You or your specialist dealer install the tracker under the plastic cover of the motor. Nothing is visible from the outside, and the bike charges the tracker while you ride.

Honestly explained

Technology, compatibility and limitations

Benefits first – and then the technology, including the points you should know before buying.

Alarm and Transmission

Trigger
An acceleration sensor triggers the alarm, not the GPS. Even a very slight movement is enough – including an attempt to remove the device.
Alarm path
Push notification with an alarm tone in the app, together with the location. SMS or email are deliberately not offered; push is the fastest way.
Notification settings
Allow all notifications for the app, on the iPhone including “Critical Alerts” and lock screen. In Do Not Disturb mode, no notifications will come through.
Mobile communications
Alarm and location data are transmitted via 2G. Where there is no reception, nothing can be sent – but the alarm is not lost; instead, it is delivered later together with the location as soon as network coverage is available again.

Installation and Compatibility

Installation location
The tracker must not be enclosed by metal or carbon, as this blocks the GPS signal. It should be placed under a plastic or rubber cover, usually beneath the motor cover or between the battery and the battery cover – the antenna with the PowUnity logo should face outward.
Actuators
Variants for Bosch (Universal, Gen 4), Shimano, Yamaha, Brose (Universal/Specialized), and Universal. The devices are identical; they differ only in the connection cable – switching is possible via a different cable.
Limits
Not every drive system is supported: Shimano EP8 RS yes, Sachs RS no. And there must be enough installation space under a plastic cover. Check your model in advance.
Assembling
We do not offer an installation service. You install it yourself or have your specialist dealer do it.

PowUnity app

Functions
Live location and last valid GPS location, route recording, arming and disarming via the lock icon, auto-lock, push alarm with alarm sound and charge level of the additional battery.
Tracking active
Location tracking can be turned off in the settings, for example if your bike is being transported on a car carrier.
Theft report
A finished document with your bike’s profile and images of the last and current location, which you can share via email or messenger and present to the police.
Browser
All functions are also available in the browser.

Recovery and Proved by PowUnity

Recovery Service
Can be optionally activated in the app, available in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and France.
In an emergency
Contact the police and file the theft report. Never recover your bike yourself – that is dangerous and the responsibility of the authorities.
What we promise
Fast alerts, traceable locations, clear documentation, and a team in Tyrol that answers your inquiries directly. No promises, no guarantees: whether a bike is recovered depends on coverage, time, and the authorities.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the bicycle alarm system with GPS

The questions we are most frequently asked before purchase.

How is the alarm triggered in a GPS bicycle alarm system?

Via an acceleration sensor, not via GPS. Even a very slight movement is enough – including an attempt to remove the device. Prerequisite: The lock in the app is closed or Auto-Lock was active.

How do I get the alarm on my phone?

As a push notification with an alarm tone in the PowUnity app, together with the location. There is deliberately no SMS or email; push is the fastest way. Allow the app all notifications, on the iPhone including “Critical Alerts” and the lock screen. No notification will come through in sleep mode.

Does this also work on a bicycle without a motor?

Yes. An e-bike is not a prerequisite – it only needs a power source, for example the bicycle lighting. That is what the universal version with 9 to 100 volts is for. For the same reason, the tracker also works on motorcycles when connected to the battery.

What happens if someone finds and removes the tracker?

The tracker is installed out of sight. If anyone tampers with it, it creates movement – and that triggers the alarm before anything has been removed. If someone disconnects the main battery, the backup battery takes over. Removal can never be completely ruled out, but you’ll be informed as soon as it begins.

How long does the additional battery last without recharging?

Up to 14 hours when the bike is in motion and up to around three weeks when stationary. It is fully charged after approximately two hours with the wheel switched on, and it recharges automatically as soon as the wheel supplies power again. The battery extension is available for longer stationary periods.

Do I need my own SIM card?

No, the appropriate SIM card is already inserted in the tracker. After the first year, tracking continues via a data plan, available monthly or annually and cancellable at any time.

Does the tracker fit my bike?

There are variants for Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Brose/Specialized, and a universal variant; the devices differ only in the cable. What is important is sufficient installation space under a plastic cover. Check your drive in the compatibility list or ask us.

What should I do if my bike has really been stolen?

Contact the police immediately and create the theft report in the app with the profile and location images. Do not go there yourself: This is dangerous and the responsibility of the authorities. With activated Recovery Service, we will also support you.

Ready?

An alarm system that informs you – not the street

A bicycle alarm system with GPS alerts you the second movement is detected and then provides the location the police can work with. Still unsure? Check your drive system in the compatibility list.
